New York Municipal Court Information and Locations

The state of New York follows the judicial system of the United States, but the official name for its judicial system is New York State Unified Court System. The New York state judiciary is based in Albany. The judiciary of the unified court system functions under the Chief Judge of New York Court of Appeals. The Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals is also its chief administrator. He is referred to as the “Chief Judge of New York.”

 

New York Court Levels

The State of New York has three levels of courts. The levels are:

Municipal Courts in New York

Municipal courts are the lowest courts of any district. Municipal courts generally deal with cases of public health, sanitation, welfare of the community, community violence, traffic, and sometimes felony cases.
