Utah Sex Offender Registry Access

Individuals convicted of sexual offenses, especially against children, such as rape, incest, kidnapping, lewdness, and child sodomy, are considered to be sexual offenders and are required to register as such by the laws of the state of Utah.

As per the Utah Code Ann. § 77-27-21.5, The Sex and Kidnap Offender Registry calls for the development, operation and maintenance of a list of offenders who have been convicted of sex crimes. These records are maintained under a system called OffenderWatch, which includes data detailing the location, compliance status, and conduct of sex offenders. The Utah Code Ann. § 77-27-21.5 also authorizes the dissemination of this information for public reference.

Utah Sex Offenders Registration

Utah sex offenders can register with the Sheriff’s office in the county or with the local police department. When registering, offenders are required to provide certain details about themselves, such as name, aliases, gender, date of birth, residential address, height, weight, eye color, and hair color. To aid in identifying the offender, he or she must also provide details of any bodily marks or scars, the name and address of any school that the individual is attending in Utah, and the name and address of the offender's place of employment in Utah; the offender must also provide a telephone number, copy of passport, social security number, and details about any vehicle that he or she is driving.

The sex offender must re-register within three days of a change of address, school, place of employment, or vehicle. The offender must also notify the local sheriff's office of these changes. All sex offenders in Utah are required to register every six months: once during their birth month, and the sixth month after that. Sex offenders who were registered in Utah as juveniles, then later committed another sexual offense, are required to register for life.

A Utah sex offender must continue to register for 10 years after the expiry or termination of the sentence. Depending on the conviction, the offender may be required to register for life. If a sex offender has been convicted and registered in another state and then moved to Utah later, he or she must register in Utah for the period of time required by the previous state of residence. All sex offenders are required to comply with the rules of Utah sex offender registration. If it is discovered that an offender provided false information knowingly, or did not update his or her information, the offender will be penalized.
