Stark county court is also known as the county's Court of Common Pleas. The Court of Common Pleas is a general jurisdiction court. There are 88 courts of common pleas in Ohio. It hears appeals from administrative agencies. These locally funded courts hear cases on tort, contracts, property involving at least $500, and miscellaneous civil cases. It also handles specific mental health and probate or estate cases. Other than these, certain domestic relation cases, felonies, misdemeanors, a few specific juvenile cases and juvenile traffic violation cases are also held in these courts.

The general offices are open Monday through Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and the marriage license department is open Monday through Friday from 8.30a.m to 4.15 p.m.

The Probate Court specializes in matters of estate and probate. The Probate Court is also the sole organization entitled with the authority of issuing marriage licenses. The fee for obtaining a marriage license from the Probate Court of Stark county is $45. Males above 18 and females above 16 years of age are eligible for applying for marriage licenses.

This court also deals with and solves issues regarding guardianship, living wills, decedents' estates, adoptions, land acquisitions, name changes and birth certificates. Family Court

The Stark County Family Court hears matters of domestic relations, divorce and dissolution. While divorces terminate a marital relation and there is a dispute among the two parties regarding the distribution of the property, dissolution is an act in which both the parties involved agree upon all the issues.
