The Public Records Act was adopted in the year 1975 by the state of California allowing the members of the general public to access all records maintained by the various public agencies of the state. The residents of California including the city of San Diego have every right to inspect the public records within the premises of the offices during regular business hours. While most records are considered to be open, there may be a few instances where the actual inspection or retrieval of a record may be restricted for reasons of privacy or for investigation purposes.

 

Procedure for a Public Records Request
