The laws of the state of Oregon, United States of America has entitled the Department of State Police of the state to maintain a sex offender registry designed for greater public safety. Any sexual offender and juvenile who had to undergo a court settlement for any sexual crime must register with the Oregon sex Offender Registry. The sex offender registry of the state attempts to provide accurate information to the people solely for advisory purposes and does evaluate the risk any particular offender may pose to the society. The state law prohibits the use of this information for punishment of or for use against the offenders in any manner. Any person found guilty of such an act is punishable under the laws of the state of Oregon. The information can only be used for general safety reasons and for protection of children.

ORS 181.592 declares that the state police must make all the information available via the Law Enforcement Data System. For criminals serving a sentence or under supervision for a first time crime the information revealed is:

•    The offender’s name and his or her date of birth
•    The name of the county where the offender lives and the zip code
•    The physical description of the offender and also a photograph
•    The name and contact information of the supervisor of the offender.

•    Name and the year pf birth of the offender
•    County name where the offender resides and zip code
•    Contact information of the supervisor.

Any offender required to register under the Oregon sex offender registry must do so within ten days of being released from any correctional institution or court. An offender is also required to notify the authority of any change of location or about moving in to Oregon from any other state. The laws of the state are also applicable to offenders who are out of the state. The registered offenders must also report annually within ten days of his or her birthday.

The laws of Oregon state specifies the duration for which a sex offender must register for. All offenders in the state must register for life. The law permits them to apply for a waiver after ten years if they are convicted for C felon. In case of juvenile adjudications, the offender may apply for a reduction but only after two years from being released from the correctional institutions or after two years of registering in case the offender comes to Oregon from another state.
