Mississippi Area Code Directory Information

The North American Numbering Plan was developed in the 1940s by AT&T and Bell Laboratories. It was then implemented in US and Canada in 1947. This was the original area code system. The area codes were initially known as numbering plan areas. It was introduced to systematize the telecommunications network of the area.

Each US state received one or more area codes according to the area, population and demand for telephone numbers. Mississippi had a single area code as per the original area code plan.
