Louisiana Area Code Directory Information

The area codes, initially known as numbering plan areas, aim at organizing the telecommunications network. The original North American Numbering Plan was devised by AT&T and Bell Laboratories and implemented in 1947 in the US and Canada. The area codes are the three digit numbers that come at the beginning of each ten digit phone number. The telephones within the same area code have the same first three digits.

As per the original plan, the State of Louisiana was assigned a single area code, area code 504. However with the increase in population and rising demand for telephone numbers, other area codes were incorporated in the Louisiana area code directory in later years.
