Kansas Sex Offender Registry Information

The Kansas sex offender registry is administered by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. This registry offers information on sex offenders who have been charged with sex crimes under the Kansas Offender Registration Act (K.S.A. 22-4901). The statute was modified on 1st July 2005 to distinguish a sex offender from an offender convicted of other crimes.

Kansas Sex Offender Information

Information on the Kansas sex offender registry is updated every 15 minutes. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation makes sure that the information available on the website is accurate. However, the information available on the website is what the sex offender himself or herself provides to the law enforcement department and hence there are chances there might be discrepancies in the information provided.

If you come across any information that to your knowledge is inaccurate, or any other data that is marked as “being verified,” you can get in touch with the KBI Offender Registration Unit over the phone or by sending an email.

Information on sex offenders convicted prior to 1994 is not on the KBI’s website.  The information is not available for public reference subject to decision of the Kansas Supreme Court in State v. Myers, 260 Kan. 669 (1996).

You can be sure of the data obtained from a sex offender registry only when it is validated by a fingerprint match. It is only then that you can arrive at a conclusive decision about an offender after having acquired other personal details about the offender.

Kansas Sex Offender Registry Search

The Kansas sex offender registry can be accessed from http://www.accesskansas.org/kbi/offender_registry/. Fill out the required criteria in the form available at the website.  The details that you need to know about the offender include last and first name of the offender, their residential address, and city, county, and zip code information. In order to streamline your search, you can click on the option for offenders who have not complied with the reporting requirements of the sex offenders in the state.

The database also records information on juvenile sex offenders. Exceptions are made in cases where a court orders the information not to be made public. A juvenile offender who has been convicted of a violent sex crime has to register till the time he/she attains the age of 18, after a period of five years from the day on which the case had been adjudicated.

Offenders in the state are required to register with law enforcement agencies for a stipulated period. Adult offenders register for 10 years and repeat offenders must register for life. There are certain exceptions for offenses that require lifetime registration for adults.

Information Contained in the Sex Offender Registry

The information contained in the registry features details like physical description, employment information, contact details, conviction information, photograph, fingerprint details, socials security number, location, driver’s license information and vehicle information.

The KBI is not entitled to verify the details mentioned by the offender as per statute. Offenders are supposed to visit the county sheriff three times a year and register. The verifications are done by the office of the County Sheriff. The failure of the offender to comply with this law or any other statute of the Kansas Offender Registration Act results in the imposition of a security level 5 felony.
