Sex Offender Definition:

According to Indiana law IC 11-8-8-5, a sex offender is a person who has been convicted in the past for offenses such as rape, child molestation, child exploitation, criminal deviate conduct, child seduction, kidnapping a person below 18 years, incest, and possession of child pornography.

The registration should occur in just 3 days of the offender’s arrival in Indiana for the purpose of living, working or studying. Whenever the offender changes his/her location of residence, work place or institute of learning, he/she has to re-register.

In case an individual fails to comply with the sex offender registration laws of Indiana knowingly and willingly, the offense will be termed as a Class C felony. The sex offender may move to another state or move outside Indiana, but has to notify before doing so. The Sheriff’s Department will be informing the new state’s state police.
