Indiana County Court Information and Locations

A county court is that division of the U.S. courts which is based on the jurisdiction of one or multiple counties. This court can be administrative or can hear the criminal cases of felonies as well as misdemeanors. Indiana county court hears criminal as well as civil cases.

 

Court Jurisdiction

 

Under Indiana county court, there are three courts with three judges. The cases heard in these county courts undergo jury trials. However, cases of small claims do not fall under the authority of jury trial. The cases handled by Indiana county court include small claims up to $6000, real estate involving maximum of $10,000, violations of different rules that include traffic, domestic relations and various other civil cases. Indiana county court also hears the criminal cases of felonies, misdemeanor and the initial hearings of other types.

 

Montgomery County

 

There are several county courts in Indiana, including Montgomery, Floyd and Madison county courts. There are three courts under Montgomery county court. They are Montgomery Circuit Court and two Montgomery Superior Courts. All three court houses remain open from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm through weekdays. Floyd County

 

Under Floyd county court, there are three courts- one Circuit and three Superior Courts. To know about their jurisdiction, address and the county court judges, you can visit http://www.in.gov/judiciary/floyd/. The address to the courthouse is Floyd County Circuit Court, 311 Hauss Square, New Albany IN 47150. Different cases are held in different rooms. The clerk’s office is in Room # 235, the Circuit Court sits at Room # 417, and the three Superior Courts sit at Rooms # 200, 425 and 421 respectively. Madison County

 

Another Indiana county court is in Madison. It is quite  large and important from the judicial perspective because under it are six courts- a Circuit and five Superior Courts. For general information on these courts you can visit the clerk’s office or call up the official. The address of the clerk’s office is 16 E. Ninth Street, Room #213, Anderson, IN 46016. There are five other courts that are under the jurisdiction of Indiana county court. They are two Town Courts of Edgewood and Pendleton and three City Courts at Anderson, Alexandria, and Elwood.
