Illinois County Public Records Search

The Illinois Regional Archives Depository is responsible for the management of the public records arising from the local governments in the state. This archive contains records from the regional depositories including the Illinois County public records arising from the various counties as well as the public records from the municipalities, school districts, townships and special districts.

The records available with the IRAD from the county level include information on the legal, administrative, historical as well as other records which are of great value for research purpose. The archives do not keep newspapers, manuscripts or records from the sources that are not official in nature.

 

Illinois County Public Records Available With the IRAD

 

The types of the records available with the IRAD which are transferred from the regional depositories (county level) include:
 

• Marriage, birth and the death  records
• Records pertaining to land deeds, mortgage and tax sale
• The Assessors’ tax books as well as the Collectors’ tax books records
• Proceedings of the county board including minutes of the meetings
• Records of the poll books and voter registration details
• Naturalization Records
• Files and records from the Criminal and Civil Courts
• Election records of the cities, proceedings of the meetings along with the minutes of the city councils as well as the ordinance records
• Miscellaneous records including the records from the county homes as well as the jail registers
• County probate records containing wills, records of the wills, guardianship records, executors’ and the administrators’ records, and  the records of the appraisement and inventory
• Records and cases from the chancery court containing the docket books, court proceedings, divorce cases and records as well as the records of the insanity proceedings

Accessing the Illinois County Public Records

 

The records of the regional governments at the county level can be accessed from the IRAD over the Internet. You can search the Illinois County public records from the specific regional depository by options such as by keying in the name of the county, by keying in the title or even by keying in the name of the depository. You can also use a combination of these fields to search for the Illinois County public records.

There are seven regional depositories of the IRAD catering to the various counties of the Illinois State. These are:  Illinois State University, Eastern Illinois University, Northeastern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, Western Illinois University and the University of Illinois State at Springfield. Among the seven regional depositories of the IRAD, the Northeastern Illinois University is completely dedicated to the Cook County region. While it is possible for you to send your request to the individual depositories at the regional level via mail or telephone, the regional depositories cannot receive or respond to your requests for the information contained in the Illinois County public records through the e-mail.
