Conduct a Free NC Background Check

The Clerk of Superior Court is the best place to get a certified copy of a criminal record of an individual within a county. One can request for a criminal record’s certified copy through the Form AOC-CR-314, which is the concerned request form and it should be submitted along with a fee of $25.00.

If you want to obtain records of background check for free, then you can access some of the free websites that are offering the background check records but these records are not accurate and therefore authenticity cannot be guaranteed. Any individual if interested to get his or her background record can get it from the office of the clerk of the superior court or from the State Bureau of Investigation which offers a statewide record. But it can only be received if one submits a fingerprint card and additional fee. The details of the procedure can be learned from the SBI website http://ncdoj.gov/About-DOJ/State-Bureau-of-Investigation/Special-Operations/Criminal-Information-and-Identification/Background-Checks.aspx.

If you have a license as per the North Carolina General Statute rules, to receive criminal history background checks from the State Bureau of Investigation, then you can initiate the process by getting in touch with the applicant unit by calling 919 662 4509 or by sending an email. While accessing the records one must specify the statute of the North Carolina code of law that one wishes to adhere to. After you have mailed your request the unit will respond back with a mail providing you with a contract or access agreement. The documents are essential and necessary to process the request.

After receiving the details one must adhere to the procedures mentioned by the applicant unit of the SBI and need to mail it back to the coordinator of special processing unit at the given address: State Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Information and Identification Section, Attn: Special Processing Coordinator, P.O. Box 29500, Raleigh, NC 27626.

Methods for Obtaining Background Check Records

There are basically three methods of obtaining a background check record approved by the State Bureau of Investigation. One of the most common methods is the statewide name check. This type of check includes identification on the basis of the name of the person whose background check is requested.

Another type of background check is based on state fingerprint check. This is done to find a positive match of the fingerprint of an individual.

The last method is the nationwide fingerprint check. This is done for positive matching of the fingerprint. This can be done if it is approved under the North Carolina General Statute, executive order or a mandate by federal government.

Information on Criminal History Background Check

The records or information which is stored in the database of the State Bureau of Investigation are those records which are submitted with fingerprint records. Once any individual gets arrested by the law enforcement agency, gets fingerprinted, the details are punched into the system of SBI which is a Computerized Criminal History databank.

Most of the details here on the records are same as the other states for instance name, social security number, arrest record, address, previous employment and others.

If you are on the verge of getting employed in a job of great responsibility like a doctor, teacher or other government positions, then you must get in touch with licensing agencies in the state of North Carolina to get your status check done. You don’t need to get in touch with State Bureau of Investigation or the SBI.

To Access Applicant Fingerprint Cards

If you own an agency which deals with health care then you can simply fill out the requisition form of non-criminal justice and you can fax it or mail it to the SBI. The address of the State Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Information and Identification Section, Attn: Section Secretary, Post Office Box 29500, Raleigh, NC 27626 0500, Fax: 919 661 4890.

Criminal Record Information

If you want to get the criminal record information of a particular individual then you will have to get in touch with the office of the clerk of the court in the county where that individual had his/her residence. In North Carolina there are many agencies which undertake criminal background check but these agencies are not related to the State Bureau of Investigation’ s Identification and Information Section. But the North Carolina General Statutes states that you can ask for the assistance of the SBI for criminal background check, if it is approved by any federal mandate or other orders coming from the executive wing of the government.

The criminal records that are available in North Carolina courts are public records and can be accessed easily by getting in touch with the office of the clerk. However there are many private companies or agencies which purchase these records and provide information to the individuals.

Identity Theft

If it happens, that you are intimated that you have a criminal record but you know that you have never been arrested and the criminal record obtained is from the SBI, then you can ask the SBI to perform a repeat status check. This is a situation when somebody is using your identity intentionally. If you are sure of the identity theft situation then you can send the SBI certain documents such as photocopy of driving license, birth certificate, telephone number specifying your area code, social security card along with a formal letter stating your condition and your fingerprints.

To know the procedures of getting your fingerprinting done, you need to contact the office of the Sheriff or the state police department. You can send your request to the section of criminal information and identification at SBI.

After you have requested for the check, a fingerprint check will occur added with a computerized criminal history check. This will ensure that whether or not a criminal record exists against your name.

If the rechecking fetches no results of criminal record against your name then the SBI issues a letter on their letter head stating that you don’t have a criminal record and the documents you provided for the rechecking purpose will be returned to you.

If the records come from the clerk’s office then you will have to contact the office of the clerk for the necessary procedures that you will have to follow.

If the record comes from a website, then you need to contact the site administrator for further details.
