Arizona Sex Offender Registry Information

The purpose of the Arizona sex offender information website is to provide information to the public concerning the location of the sex offenders within the state of Arizona. The information is provided to allow the criminal justice community to promote public awareness concerning the potential threat that sex offenders can cause to the citizens of Arizona.

It is impossible to notify every citizen about a sex offender’s presence in the community. The website http://www.azdps.gov/services/sex_offender/ empowers you to find vital information and take appropriate precautions. Offering information regarding convicted sex offenders to the public is an essential step to encourage the public to protect themselves from potential threats.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety

The Arizona Department of Public Safety or DPS has established the sex offender registry site to meet the requirements of A.R.S 13 3827. The Department of Public Safety is responsible for maintaining this site and also verifying the addresses of all the registered sex offenders annually.

Sex Offender’s Registry

In Arizona, sex offenders are classified as “predatory” and are committed to a state hospital. Upon being released from the prison, the sex offender is again subjected to a re-evaluation of his/ her status. Based on this re-evaluation process, the sex offender can be recommitted to a state hospital in Arizona State.

Arizona State law allows the sex offenders to request an annual review to find out if the offender can be released back into society.

Released sex offenders need to register with the appropriate county sheriff office. Sex offenders have 72 hours, excluding public holidays and weekends, to notify the appropriate law enforcement unit about a change of residency status. The offender needs to report about any change of residency status in his/her sex offender registration form. If the sex offender fails to notify the authorities about a change of residency status then he/she can be charged with a Class 4 felony offense.

In the case of juvenile sex offenders in Arizona, the registration information has to be completed by an adult. A court order can make a juvenile sex offender in Arizona to register himself or herself with the sex offender registry until the offender is 25 years of age.

Sex offenders in Arizona are also required to get a special permit from the motor vehicle department. The permit is very similar to a regular license except that it reveals that it belongs to a sex offender registrant. If the sex offender fails to acquire a permit from the Department of Motor Vehicles then the individual can be charged with a Class 1 Misdemeanor charge and an additional fine of $250.
