There are 15 counties in Arizona, each of which has a county court which is also known as the superior court.  Apart from the superior courts, counties in Arizona also have Justice of the Peace Courts. The 15 counties in Arizona are: Pima , Maricopa, Coconino, Cochise, Mohave, Gila ,  Yuma ,Pinal , Apache,  Greenlee, Graham , La Paz,  Santa Cruz, Navajo and  Yavapai.

The Superior Court has 5 departments which are:

Family Court

The Family Court provides a platform to resolve conflicts and disputes that deal with families and children. It hears and decides on cases involving divorce, child negligence and abuse cases, custody issues, visitation rights, spousal support, and child custody cases. It also offers counseling services to parents, helps families deal with separation, and offers programs and services for families in need of assistance with drug addiction.

Probate and Mental Health Department

The Probate and Mental Health Department deals with cases that involve estate rights, property dispute cases, wills, trusts, and other matters pertaining to the administration of estates. The Mental Health Department deals with cases that are about the rights and violation of rights of the minors, elderly and the mentally ill wards.

Criminal Department

The Criminal Department adjudicates on cases that deal with felony charges. This department works in partnership with various local justice agencies to coordinate the transfer of the cases from justice courts, find alternate sentencing solutions to help reduce the jail population, modernize the management of criminal cases and to help expand the program of the Drug Court.

In the last ten years there has been an increase of 90% in the number of felony cases, and a 30% increase in the number of first degree murder cases which have been filed in the criminal department of the Arizona County courts.

Civil Department

Each year, over 30,000 civil cases are filed in the civil department of the Arizona County courts. The Civil department hears cases that deal with disputes between individuals, companies, and partnerships. The type of cases heard are property damage cases, personal injury cases, disputes pertaining to contracts and medical malpractice cases.

Juvenile Court

The Juvenile Court hears cases that deal with guardianship issues, adoption cases, juvenile delinquency cases, emancipation of young adults above 16 years in accordance with the Arizona State law, ARS Section 12-2451, and dependency cases.
