Alaska Area Code Directory Information

Every state in the United States has been given specific area codes. As for Alaska the area code is 907 and it covers the entire Alaska region barring the small southeastern communities like Hyder and Alaska. Hyder users come under the area code 250 which is assigned to its neighboring area Stewart, British Columbia. It was the year 1957 when the area code 907 was assigned to Alaska along side area code 808 for Hawaii. Area code 907 is one among the only 13 remaining area codes which serves the entire state.

As there is only one area code which is operational in the state of Alaska, people living in  the smaller towns of Alaska religiously give the last four digits of their phone numbers as the first six numbers or digits part of the expanded area code and is the same for all subscribers of the area. For instance, if a person calls from an area around Ketchikan, instead of mentioning the whole number 907-225-XXXX, locals will just tell the last four digits since most of the phone numbers in the area uses the standard 907-225.

In the area Fairbanks, Anchorage and some other populated parts where there is more than one prefix; people mention seven digits only. Dialing of ten digits is nonexistent in Alaska except in the case of cell phones, the local calls uses seven digits and the long distance calls uses 1+10D.

The area code of Alaska is 907 and is the largest code in respect of the physical size in the U.S. and it is just next to area code of Canada 867 in terms of land area among all the codes of the “North American Number Plan.
